1. Where is Go Dri Classics located?
We are located in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
2. Can I come and see the cars before I book?
Of course! We’re open Saturday and Sunday 8am to 6pm and Monday to Friday by arrangement. Please call us on 646.512.2001 to make arrangements.
3. What age do you have to be to hire a car?
25 years and over, up to 75 years, with a minimum of two years driving experience. You must have a clean driving record to rent from us.
4. Can more than one person drive a car?
Yes, there is a charge of $25 for each additional driver. We’ll need to see driving licenses and proof of address too. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL DRIVERS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH US; IF THEY ARE NOT, NOT ONLY IS IT ILLEGAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE INSURED, SO YOU WILL BE PERSONALLY LIABLE FOR ANY COSTS OR DAMAGE.
5. Is there a mileage limit?
We want you to enjoy your trip, not watch the trip-meter. We do not charge milage rates!
6. Where can I take the car?
Normally rentals are for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. If you plan on going further than that, let us know. We'll try to accommodate reasonable request but logistical restrictions do apply.
7. What happens if we break down?
We'll get to you as soon as is possible with a replacement car.
What replacement car? I don't know, I don't have one.
Ok, then. I'll call a AAA. You can't. They only cover people, not cars.
Ok, then. I'll call some random breakdown service and you'll end up at their shop in who knows where. And my car will end up in their shop at their mercy. So I need to have a replacement car.
8. What methods of payment are accepted?
For bookings we accept most major credit or debit cards, we do NOT take AMEX. For security deposit, we can also accept cash on the day.
9. What Insurance do I need?
Your booking with us includes comprehensive motor vehicle insurance for the car and driver(s). Your personal possessions and other items not part of the cars’ permanent equipment are NOT covered, neither is cancellation or curtailment, and we strongly recommend you have your own insurance to cover this. Our motor vehicle insurance cover has a £750 excess which you’ll be liable for should there be a claim.
10. What’s the £750 Security Deposit for?
In the unfortunate case of an accident or damage to the car, the security deposit will be used to pay for the damage and/or the motor vehicle insurance excess. We may require an additional sum to cover the uninsured losses if greater than the insurance excess, and again recommend you take out independent travel insurance to cover this.
11. What’s the process for making a booking?
Make the booking online, or give us a call if you prefer.
12. Do the convertibles have soft tops?
All of our convertibles have a soft top and you will be shown how this is taken off and put on again during the handover.
13. Do you offer a delivery/collection service?
Please email or call with your requirements and we will quote accordingly.
Driving Our Classic Cars
We take all our customers out for a short drive to familiarize you with the car and to get you comfortable with driving it.
Even when maintained to the highest standards the technology of 40 or 50 years ago provides for a different driving experience than you'll find in modern cars. Here are a couple pointers to be aware of or where you may need to adjust your driving style.
Our cars do not have power steering. This is most noticeable when parking. The steering will be heavier to park than a modern car.
The braking systems are perfectly adequate when the cars are driven safely but they do not have the immediate responsiveness of modern braking systems. This does not mean that there is anything wrong with the cars, just that they need to be driven sympathetically and with an awareness of the effects on other road users.
Two main things to remember are:
1. You WILL need further to stop than you are used to in a modern vehicle, so you need to leave more room between you and the car in front. Think of it as 'predictive braking'.
2. Acceleration is not comparable to most modern cars. The combination of manual gear changes and older fuel delivery systems means our cars will take longer than you are used to catch up to modern traffic speeds from a standing start. Again, awareness of the traffic around you is key. It's ALWAYS going to be better to wait for a longer gap in traffic when pulling out than to rely on acceleration to get you clear of on-coming traffic.
One more thing - USE THE PARKING BREAK!
